Our responsibility

The Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations serve as a guide for us to clearly define our goals and our commitment. In doing so, we think not only within the boundaries of our company—but far beyond them.

Below you will find information on how we report on sustainability and CSR within our company, along with selected examples from our daily operations.

For us, sustainability means thinking about the future, acting in the present, and learning from the past.

Since 2021, sustainability has been firmly embedded in our management system. As part of our annual reporting in accordance with the GRI Standards, we aim to provide transparency regarding our sustainability goals, measures, and progress. Our reports are published only after they have been reviewed and approved by the DNK.

One aspect of sustainability that we, as an electrical engineering company, place great emphasis on is the use of renewable energy. To this end, we have installed several photovoltaic systems on our company building; we use the vast majority of the electricity they generate ourselves, thereby reducing CO2 emissions compared to the use of “conventional electricity.”

In addition, we primarily use a heat pump to heat our company building, which not only saves natural resources such as gas or oil but also sustainably reduces CO2 emissions from heating our company building. This is especially true since we generate the electricity for the heat pump—at least in part—through our own photovoltaic systems. We also have a rainwater cistern and use the water collected there for operational and utility purposes.

Digital processes mean less paper and less toner. This is good for the environment because it conserves natural resources, but it’s also good for the company. After all, digital processes have been proven to save costs. In addition, they eliminate monotonous tasks such as filing and searching for documents.

KSV already uses digital processes in many areas. For example, we send quotes, order confirmations, and invoices almost exclusively electronically as PDF documents. And in our purchasing department, we rely heavily on electronic data interchange formats such as EDI ( electronic data interchange) to exchange documents with our suppliers.

But we also strive to minimize our use of paper internally as much as possible, whether through a virtually paperless accounting system that utilizes electronic review and approval processes or through the use of digital solutions in production and quality assurance.

Throughout our entire company building and production facilities, energy consumption is monitored and controlled via a building management system. To this end, the temperature in each room is continuously measured and analyzed, and compared with setpoints and weather forecasts. Based on this information, the central control center individually controls the heating and ventilation components in each area of the building.

In addition, many common areas—such as kitchens, cafeterias, etc.—are equipped with motion sensors that specifically dim or turn off the lighting in these areas. And in the production halls as well as in the offices, we use constant light control with occupancy sensors. This not only creates ideal working conditions—since only the amount of artificial light that is actually needed is added—but also helps save energy.

The children’s aid organization CHILDREN FOR A BETTER WORLD, based in Munich, was founded in 1994 by Gabriele Quandt and Dr. Florian Langenscheidt together with 30 dedicated individuals from all walks of life. The organization supports projects both in Germany and abroad and has set itself the goal of improving the living conditions of children and young people in need and empowering them to take responsibility for their own lives.

The former managing partner of KSV, Mr. Jochen Kortmann, is one of the founding members of the association – hence the close connection between CHILDREN FOR A BETTER WORLD and KSV.

Our diverse projects consistently demonstrate that we must always stay at the cutting edge of technology. At the same time, we face a demographic challenge here in Germany. This makes it all the more important for us, as a technology-driven company, to inspire children and young people to take an interest in mathematics, computer science, natural sciences, and technology (MINT) at an early age and to identify talent early on.

JUGEND FORSCHT is Germany’s best-known competition for young talent in the STEM fields! We regularly support the Remagen regional competition both financially and through the volunteer work of our managing director, Andreas Frink, who serves on the judging panel—driven by a passion for inspiring children and young people to take an interest in technology.

At the Department of Pediatric Hematology and Oncology at Kemperhof, children and adolescents with cancer and congenital bleeding disorders can receive treatment. It is one of only two departments in Rhineland-Palatinate that provides such care. The age range of patients treated extends from premature infants to those approaching adulthood. The clinic’s goal is to provide children and adolescents with a stay that is as age-appropriate as possible and to offer them a break from the daily routine of the hospital, for example through the clown doctors. In addition, the clinic aims to enable parents to stay close to their children during treatment, for example by providing free parent apartments.

We regularly support the work of the pediatric oncology ward at Kemperhof and the Parents’ Initiative for Children with Cancer in Koblenz (e.V.) through donations, with the aim of making the children and adolescents’ time in the hospital as pleasant and comfortable as possible.

The Bunter Kreis Rheinland e.V. has set itself the goal of supporting families with a chronically ill, critically ill, or premature child in their daily lives. The association’s primary focus is to make the transition from hospital treatment to outpatient care easier for families and to facilitate as seamless a transition as possible from inpatient to outpatient care. In addition, the association aims to provide long-term support to affected families and ensure they receive comprehensive, family-oriented assistance in their daily lives through a support network.
